Formación y Empleo

15th Oxford School on Neutron Scattering

Date and Venue: 3-15 September 2017, St. Anne’s College, University of Oxford.
About the School: The school is intended primarily for scientists, student and postdoctoral researchers, who are new to the field of neutron scattering. It provides an excellent introduction to the field, which is developed through to its application in contemporary research. Lectures and tutorials covering all aspects of the theory and practice of a variety of neutron scattering techniques will be given by international experts. Students will gain a comprehensive grounding in modern techniques and applications at both steady state and pulsed neutron sources and have the opportunity to hear about the latest research being carried out with the technique.

Post Doc – Neutron scattering of magnetic Nanoparticles at the Universidad de Cantabria (UC)

The Group of Magnetic Materials at UC seeks a highly qualified candidate for a postdoctoral position for a Large research project funded by EU. The NanoMag project brings together Europe’s and internationally leading experts in: manufacturing of magnetic single-core and multi-core nanoparticles, characterization of magnetic nanostructures and national metrology institutes.

The main focus is to characterize magnetic nanoparticles by means of neutron diffraction and SANS of samples produced by other partners and correlate with magnetization and susceptibility measurements

The post-doctoral fellowship will be running for at least 12 months (max. 36 months) and will be located at Departamento CITIMAC at the Universidad Cantabria. The recruitment process will be finalized as soon as possible.

Requirements: Qualified candidates must have received a PhD degree in one of the following:

• Material Science

• Physics or Chemistry.

It is a requirement to have contact in the field of nanoparticles/nanomaterials SANS and Rietveld refinement of neutron data. Previous experience in the field of magnetic nanoparticles is an advantage, including the study of nanometric Fe-oxides for biomedical applications and use of XRD and/or SAXS.

Other qualifications: Use of magnetometry techniques. We are looking for an independent researcher who is energetic, innovative and good at building relations. Previous experience in project management is an advantage. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate is required to possess excellent communicative skills (both written and oral). Spanish is not needed but English is required. Furthermore, a genuine interest for industrial applications and customer contacts is desirable.

Information on the post will be provided by Project Leader: Dr. Luis Fernández Barquín, email: Esta dirección electrónica esta protegida contra spambots. Es necesario activar Javascript para visualizarla ; phone: +34-942-201405

Please send your application to COIE, Human Resources UC, email: Esta dirección electrónica esta protegida contra spambots. Es necesario activar Javascript para visualizarla  as soon as possible but no later than 30 June 2014, enter reference number N61

The Group of Magnetism at UC is located in Santander (northern Spain) and holds long experience in the field of magnetic nanoparticles and a suite of experimental techniques for their characterization including SQUID, PPMS and XRD instruments (and TEM). The Group is also a frequent user of Large Facilities.
