PROGRAM

In September 2005, the 1st Spanish Conference of Input-Output Analysis was held in Oviedo with the intention of promoting and stimulating the exchange of ideas and researches related to the models and instruments of input-output analysis that is being carried out in different universities and public and private institutions. The 1st Conference was a great success in terms of the number and quality of the works presented and the number of participants.

In the framework of the first conference, it was clear that there was a need to maintain stable mechanisms of communication and collaboration between researchers and institutions interested in the development and application of these techniques of economic analysis. It was decided to celebrate a Conference of Input-Output Analysis every two years in Spain.

The consolidated research group S10 “Growth, demand and natural resources”, belonging to the Department of Economic Analysis of the University of Zaragoza, took charge of organizing the 2nd Spanish Conference of Input-Output Analysis in Zaragoza. This will be held on the 5th to 7th September 2007 in the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the University of Zaragoza (Spain).

Entitled the 2nd Spanish Conference of Input-Output Analysis: “Growth, demand and natural resources”, the congress aims to promote and stimulate the interchange of ideas between researchers. It also seeks a strong collaboration between the University and public and private institutions. It offers a space in which to present research related to input-output analysis, including all aspects of the models and their applications. Nevertheless, the title “Growth, demand and natural resources” tries to emphasize three promising lines in the input-output field: the validity of this methodology in the evaluation of growth processes and economic development; the importance of demand patterns in the determination of economic impacts; and the use of input-output type multisectorial models for the study and evaluation of the interaction between the economy and the environment. These will be the lines of work emphasized in the Conference and will be reflected in the organization of plenary sessions.
