Imanes Macroscópicos y Nanoestructurados (IMANA)

 

RESEARCH

Synchrotron based spectroscopic techniques (X-ray Absortion, X-ray magnetic Circular Dichroism, X-ray Magnetic resonant Scattering) have reached their maturity in the study of magnetic materials. Because of their element selectivity and improved resolution they allow to obtain direct information on the electronic state and the atomic orbital and spin moments of the magnetogenic atoms. The advance in imaging, combining microscopy with XMCD, are giving a new impulse in the detailed understanding of static, and adding time as a parameter, in the dynamics of the magnetic domain formation and motion. Our group intendsto go further in our studies of nanostructured systems of different dimensionality including imaging techniques as X-PEEM and combining these results with MFM images obtained in our laboratory. Other techniques such as neutron diffraction, Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS), Extended X-ray Fine structure (EXAFS) and muon scattering, available in Facilities are also used.

New topics of hot actuality and risk are studied such as the search for magnetism in biologically suported non-magnetic particles, new magnetic phases, and spintronic systems based on the Tunnel Anisotropic Magnetoresistance (TAMR). Besides, some topics originated in previous projects, which are in a very productive status, are continued such as magnetism of supported sef-organized nanoparticles, Fe/Si multilayers and nanostructured thin films, Griffiths phases. The in-house magnetic characterizationis performed in our Low Temperature Laboratory, including Mössbauer and CEMS spectroscopy, and in the Service of Magnetic Measurements of the University of Zaragoza. We exploit our home-built high frequency transversal susceptibility probe built to study anisotropy field and dynamical switching directly at radio-frequencies of nanoparticles and Griffiths phases.
