The Irish government has indicated that the country's highly anticipated referendum on the EU treaty is to take place in the second week of June. The Irish media are suggesting it will probably fall on 12 June. Meanwhile, the British House of Commons has passed the treaty.

Germany's highest court is to decide upon a complaint brought by a German MP against the EU's latest treaty. Meanwhile Ireland is set to come under even more scrutiny as the only country certain to have a referendum on the treaty following the UK's failed referendum bid last week.

The UK's parliament has rejected
a call for referendum on the new EU's Lisbon treaty, a move representing
a victory for Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown which has argued in the
face of bitter opposition that there should not be a public poll. Britain
is now expected to ratify the treaty in parliament by summer.
