On
May 29, 1956, the foreign ministers of the Six (Belgium, France,
Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands) approved the "Spaak
Report" and agreed to initiate an Intergovernmental Conference
to prepare two new treaties (EEC and EURATOM). The IGC was launched
on 26 June 1956 and ended with a meeting on 25 March 1957 in the
Horatii and Curiatii Room, on the Capitoline Hill in Rome, where
representatives of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and
the Netherlands signed the Treaties of Rome consisting of: |

- the Treaty establishing
the European Economic Community (EEC);
- the Treaty establishing
the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or Euratom);
- a Convention on
certain institutions common to the EEC, the EAEC and the European Coal
and Steel Community (ECSC).
