President Barroso announces creation of a Science and Technology Advisory Council

Brussels, 27 February 2013 

The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, has announced today the creation of a Science and Technology Advisory Council. This informal advisory body held its first meeting today in Brussels.

Paul Rey

Paul Rey who was an active member of MAGMANet and of previous European Networks has passed away. He was an eminent organic chemist as well as one of the main protagonists of the development of molecular magnetism that occurred in the 80s when together with Dante Gatteshi they developed magnetic architectures based on the use of free radicals as ligans of transition metal ions. Dante has sent us a few warm words dedicated to his memory.

For the third consecutive year the research of EIMM participants is awarded by the European Research Council

The European Research Council (ERC) assigned in the frame of the program IDEAS in the most prestigious category, the Advanced Grant, in the 2008 call a grant to Wolfgang Wernsdorfer of the Neel Laboratory of Grenble of the CNRS with the MOLNANOSPIN, Molecular Spintronics Using Single-Molecule Magnets, project and in the 2009 call the MOLSPIN, Magnetic Molecules and Hybrid Materials for Molecular Spintronics, presented by Eugenio Coronado of the University of Valencia was awarded.  This year was the time of Roberta Sessoli from the University of Firenze and Consorzio INSTM that had her project MOLNANOMAS, Molecular Nanomagnets at Surfaces: Novel Phenomena for Spin-based Technologies, awarded by the ERC.
