The Optical Fibre Laboratory is located at the Faculty of Science building and involves personnel of the Applied Physics Department of the University. The laboratory holds installations for characterisation of optical fibres and optical fibre devices. Chromatic and polarization mode dispersion and nonlinear parameters in optical fibres, optical fibre amplifier characterization and high resolution optical spectra of laser sources are among the measurement techniques available in the laboratory.
The Physical Vapour Deposition Laboratory, also at the Faculty of Science, is equipped with two vacuum deposition systems, with e-beam thermal evaporation and sputtering, for multilayer structures development. Surface cleaning, polishing and inspection techniques for optical devices are also available.
The Optical Communications Laboratory is located at the Ada Byron Building of the Polytechnic Engineering School and includes Professors of Electronic and Communications Engineering Department. This lab holds the required equipment for optical communications testing, eye diagram and bit error rate measurements for transmission rates up to 10 Gb/s, as well as setups for integrated optical devices and plastic optical fibre characterisation.
The Optoelectronics Laboratory is located at the Agustín de Betancourt Building of the Polytechnic Engineering School and includes Professors of the Applied Physics Department corresponding to Basic Engineering School. Optoelectronic equipment, used in special purpose measuring instrumentation developments, is placed In this lab.
Beside these research laboratories, GTF also has access to different teaching laboratories, meeting rooms and teaching seminars corresponding to the Applied Physics Department and the Electronic and Communications Engineering Department, in which the teaching staff develops its educational tasks.
