Research Lines |Optical Metrology

The metrology group has been working for more than 20 years in the development and application of optical techniques for the diagnosis of fluid flows. Recently, some new research line has started in the solids mechanics field.

Optical diagnostics in fluids mechanics

This field of research includes the development and application of several techniques:

•  Application of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to different flows (convective flows, two-phase flows and biological flows)

•  Developments on Stereoscopic PIV: one-camera set-up; forward configuration set-up

•  Development of holographic digital techniques such as Digital Image Plane Holography (DIPH), for the simultaneous analysis of several fluid planes.

 

Particle sizing techniques

In this field of research our main objective is to distinguish the behaviour of the different phases of a multiphase flow. Our works in that field combine holographic digital techniques with Interferometric Particle Imaging (IPI).

 

Optical diagnostics in solids mechanics

Development of non-intrusive optical techniques for the analysis of superconducting material behaviour during service, detection of hot spots, and corrosion of the surface.

Design and construction of an interferometric platform, for the detection of the pressure done by the walk of small mice.
