The aim of this research area is to contribute to the knowledge of mechanisms involved in the atherosclerosis development and to the search of different agents for its control.

For this, different animal models are used and  the effort is focused on the effect of diet and others cardiovascular risk factors.

The team Mediterranean diet and atherosclerosis, headed by Jesús Osada, professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has been working for twenty years in this subjet and has advanced in the scientific knowledge of olive oil and others nutrients (CLA) in the development of different pathologies.
As a multidisciplinar team, it integrates professionals from different fields, from Molecular Biology to Veterinary science, Pathology and Nutrition, it is funded by the grants CICYT
SAF 2016-75441-R and AEI PID2019-104915RB-I00, and classified as "experienced team" B16_20R by the Gobierno de Aragón.
Together with the
B03_20R team of Gobierno de Aragón forms one of the nodes of Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud in the CIBER de Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y de la Nutrición (CIBEROBN).
