project overview

The general aim of the “Functional LC Dendrimers: Synthesis of New Materials, resource for New Applications” ITN is to plan, organize, implement and evaluate a joint PhD training programme, looking for multifunctional materials with applications in two fundamental subjects, i.e. Biomedicine and Advanced Materials Science.

Partners and Synergies: the Dendreamers work-team enables multidisciplinary collaboration between the groups involved, which are dedicated to synthesis, characterization, modellization and applications, in order to attain results within the duration of the project. In short: 7 universities and 2 private companies in 8 EU countries will undertake the new challenges. Aspects such as materials synthesis and characterization were already represented in a former EU 6thFP collaborative team  involving University of Hull, IPCMS-Strasbourg and University of Zaragoza. To this set 3 prestigious research centres will dedicate their efforts to the evaluation of physical properties: Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon, Kaunas University of Technology and Fraunhofer Institut in Potsdam. The University of Patras will be responsible for the theoretical studies and modellization of the systems. Finally, 2 private companies will be responsible for the evaluation of the potential applications of the compounds synthesized in biological and biomedical aspects as well as molecular materials: Pharmamar (Spain) and Nanologica (Sweden).
