Junior Researcher Stage position in FUNCTIONAL LIQUID CRYSTAL (LC) DENDRIMERS

One Junior Researcher Stage position is available in the Polymer and Liquid Crystal Group (UZ-INA-CSIC) leaded by Prof. José Luis Serrano.  Type: Fixed Term Contract. Duration: 18 months.

Candidates must have a Chemistry Degree, and preferably some specialisation courses or training in Organic Synthesis and/or Biochemistry. They must have less than 4 years research experience and not yet a PhD degree = Early Stage Researcher.

The Early Stage Researcher will carry out research in the frame of a Marie Curie ITN Network in the field of LC DENDRIMERS aimed at the preparation of new functional materials as resource for new applications in collaboration with the company Pharma Mar, DENDREAMERS Project’s Partner, who will be the hirer.

Pharma Mar is a biopharmaceutical company Zeltia Group and global leader in the discovery, development and commercialization of anticancer drugs of marine origin. Yondelis ® is the first Spanish anti-cancer drug. Yondelis® is already approved in the 30 countries of the EEA and Switzerland and in 21 countries outside the EEA (European Economic Area). Pharma Mar also has a rich pipeline of preclinical candidates, and a strong research and development programme.

Due to mobility criteria, applicants should be not residents in Spain or residents that have not resided or carried out their research activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. European and non European citizens fulfilling this condition are eligible.

Languages: Scientific articles and communications to conferences will be written in English. Selected candidates will be encouraged to follow Spanish courses to improve their adaptation to the host group and society.

Indicative starting date:  Early 2011.  The contract start and incorporation of the students to the host lab will depend on the validation by Spanish laws of their bachelor’s degree title and (in case of non Europeans) work permit administrative procedures.

NINE POST-DOC POSITIONS IN FUNCTIONAL LIQUID CRYSTAL (LC) DENDRIMERS

European project: DENDREAMERS (Marie Curie Action – ITN). “Functional LC Dendrimers: Synthesis of New Materials, Resource for New Applications”.

All (9) partners offer 1 post-doc position each. Backgrounds required: PhD in Chemistry / Physics

1 Post-Doctoral position, available in the Polymer and Liquid Crystal Group (University of Zaragoza - Institute of Nanoscience of Aragon - CSIC), leaded by Prof. José Luis Serrano. Legal Form: contract. Duration: 12 months. Start of the contract: 2nd semester of 2010.

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in Chemistry. The Post-Doc will carry out research in the frame of “DENDREAMERS”, a Marie Curie ITN in the field of Liquid Crystal Dendrimers. The Post-Doc will help 2 PhD students at their 2nd year of thesis.

The available research lines are:

  • Development of new materials for optoelectronic application and/or
  • Development of new systems for Drug Delivery and Radiodiagnostic.

1 Post-Doctoral position is available in the Department of Organic Materials, Insitut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg - UMR7504, CNRS - University of Strasbourg, led by Dr J. L. Gallani. Legal Form: contract. Duration: 12 months. Start of the contract: 2nd semester of 2010.

Applicants must have a PhD Degree in Chemistry. The Post-Doc will carry out research in the frame of “DENDREAMERS”, a Marie Curie ITN in the field of Liquid Crystal Dendrimers. The Post-Doc will help 1 PhD student at her 2nd year of thesis.

The available research line is dealing with the synthesis and development of novel dendritic materials (organic dendrimers, hybridized nanoparticles) for optoelectronic/optical applications

The post Doc project title and the area of research that will cover: Project title: "Design, synthesis and studies of electroactive liquid crystalline dendrimers".

Area of research: New charge transporting and luminescent liquid crystalline dendrimers will be designed synthesized and studied. The low-molar-mass model compounds containing the corresponding electroactive groups will also be synthesized, characterized and investigated. The potential fields of the application of the synthesized materials are optoelectronic and electronic devices such as organic light-emitting diodes, photovoltaic cells, electrophotographic receptors, organic thin film transistors, electrochromic devices.

Career background required: PhD in Chemistry.

Technical or scientific special expertise required: background in Organic chemistry and Polymer Chemistry is required. The experience in the synthesis and characterization of liquid crystals and/or dendrimers is desirable.

Topic: The general aim of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network 2008 – 2012 Dendreamers “Functional LC Dendrimers: Synthesis of New Materials, resource for New Applications” is to plan, organize, implement and evaluate a joint training programme for 16 PhDs (start 2009) and 9 post docs (start 2010), looking for multifunctional materials with applications in two fundamental subjects, i.e. Biomedicine and Advanced Materials Science. The ITN scheme includes 2 Summer Schools on additional skills an several network plenary workshops in LCDs. All researchers will spend a secondment stay in, at least, one of the Network other partners.
